[00:00:11] Speaker A: How food live streams work in China.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: How do you tell the difference in Chinese.
Say.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: Like eating show.
Wow, I have good appetite.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: Okay, very nice.
Let's take a look at today's keyword.
And.
[00:03:06] Speaker A: So means the same means different. So you can use them to compare people, clothes, habits, opinion and more.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: So the basic structure is or if you wanted to what kind of things you can put the adjective in the end. So use this structure to say two things are the same in some way.
So for example, we have in the dialogue I am same as you.
So in this case you don't see the or because we say our woman. So we took it, we make it together.
[00:04:02] Speaker A: Now let us see more examples.
These two pieces of clothing are equally expensive.
So here we get. We got an adjective at the. At the end of the sentence.
She and I like black in this same way. So here we put a mental verb after the.
[00:04:36] Speaker B: Very good. And how do we say things in different way? We have the structure, the same structure A plus or plus B. Then we add.
So we use the thing two things to say two things are different. So for example from the dialogue.
So of course that's different from me. Of course we had through the contest we knew that me and Melanie we were talking about like our dressing styles. So what I was comparing to was the dressing style with Melanie and mine. So the second one we have is.
Dressing for work and after work is different.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: My shoes are different from yours. So as in English we don't repeat the keyword.
So we say instead of and in English the same thing. We use yours to instead of yours, your shoes. Next one.
Everyone's clothing habits are different. So here it's an adjective different.
[00:06:05] Speaker B: Very nice.
So extra tip just for the students. So in daily conversation, Chinese speaker often say by itself. So for example, we have like me too or same as usual.
So these are kind of sentence that we use a lot.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Now let's practice a bit more.
My Chinese is as good as my mom's. But the characters Chinese characters we study are different.
[00:06:51] Speaker B: So take your time. Use and the same sentence and we'll share one possible answer later in the episode.
[00:07:02] Speaker A: Have a try.
[00:07:05] Speaker B: So let's take back a look at our dialogue. So please be careful of our grammar structure that we talked about.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: Evelyn, what kind of clothes do you usually like to wear?
[00:07:32] Speaker B: I prefer simple and comfortable clothes. What about you?
[00:07:42] Speaker A: I'm the same as you. I also like to dress comfortably.
[00:07:51] Speaker B: Is it the same when you go to work?
[00:08:01] Speaker A: Not exactly the same. When I work, I dress a bit more formally.
[00:08:14] Speaker B: That's different from me. I dress very casually at work too.
[00:08:26] Speaker A: But our style after work is the same.
[00:08:33] Speaker B: Exactly. After work, comfortable is the most important thing.

[00:09:16] Speaker A: Let's talk about eating. So have you ever heard of eating show? It's a huge trend in China and it's something that many people watch online, especially when they are hungry.
[00:09:34] Speaker B: Absolutely.
So this is like like Melissa said, eating broadcast where people film themselves eating a large amount of food. The trend originally came from South Korea but it is also increasing the popularity in China now. So especially on platform like Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. We said it a lot before and bilibili.
[00:10:04] Speaker A: The idea is to watch someone eat food.
And enjoy it as much as they do.
The sounds, the expressions and the enjoyment of the food, it's all part of the experience.
So some people find it very satisfying. Almost like an ASMR experience.
[00:10:32] Speaker B: Yes, that is also very popular right now in ASMR experience.
So the host or what we say usually eats in front of the camera and talk about their talk to their viewers.
Some even describe every single bite.
Other focus on the sound, the crunchy or the stubborn sound.
I know like in the western countries they also have this like talking about how about how they rate the food.
But I noticed one thing that is interesting that in Asian country they like to put like a really skinny beautiful girl or a handsome boy to be the host.
And then I, I, I actually watch these and I would be like oh I'm so jealous. Like how can they eat so much but still stay so like in shape, you know?
[00:11:37] Speaker A: Yeah, we don't know. Maybe they have the very they have their own secret to keep their good health. Okay, so but it's super popular especially during meal times when people are craving something but don't have time to eat and they tune into this broadcast to get some vicarious enjoyment from the food. So it's very important to help us to have a good appetite.
So.
[00:12:14] Speaker B: Exactly. It's not only about the food, it's about the, the also experience of eating and sharing the moment.
So some sometimes even personally of the broadcaster, like if you like this youtuber, if you like this broadcaster, you follow like when. When he or she eats. So viewers feel like they are eating with the host and it's very comfortable.
Yeah.
[00:12:41] Speaker A: And you said before those hosts can be hands up guy or a beautiful girl. So it's very attractive.
[00:12:50] Speaker B: Yes.
Okay.
[00:12:53] Speaker A: Speaking of which, did you know that some eating show hosts have gained millions of followers? Some even make a living of these broadcasts. Wow, I'm a bit jealous. And it's not just regular food.
This sometimes is huge portions or expensive items like seafood hai xian or exotic delicate size and get more attention. Wow.
Wow, what a life.
[00:13:32] Speaker B: So it's.
It's a while.
It's wild how social media has shaped to food industry and our eating habits. So it's not uncommon for people to watch as the way to relax or as a form of entertainment. It's basically like food entertainment.
[00:13:56] Speaker A: And what's even more interesting, it's how China has added its own twist to the trend.
For instance, Li Ru, there's this focus on healthy eating within some dreams where hosts eat a lot of fruits, vegetables.
And low calorie food.
They are showing how to eat well while still eating a lot.
[00:14:31] Speaker B: Yes. So me personally, instead of the. The broadcast about eating a lot, a huge portion. Me personally, I like to watch the. The Chinese broadcaster eating some special things like the local food in. In China I love that kind of especially when they go to like xiaochitan to have.
I remember personally I like the chunch because we don't get that here. We don't get chuncher or that kind of thing Here in Taiwan we have something similar but not exactly the same. And so I, I know that from. From YouTube and I enjoy watching them doing that.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: I can have a test.
So it's fascinating to see how food connects people in different ways. Well, in the west we're used to food channels focusing on cooking in China has become a unique enjoyable form of media.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: Very nice. So if you guys like about it, please search it up in Douyin.
They have a lot of broadcaster doing this and it's really fascinating, really interesting.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: Earlier we asked you how would you say this in Chinese? My Chinese is as good as my mom's but the Chinese characters we study are different.
[00:16:22] Speaker B: So the correct answer is. Well, the possible answer is.
So you guys get it correctly.
[00:16:40] Speaker A: If not, don't be upset. Keep trying.
[00:16:45] Speaker B: Very nice. Okay, so now it's your turn.

[00:18:23] Speaker A: Next time we're going to talk about a new very useful structure.
The more the more so we'll talk about how to describe how things change or get better or get worse over time.
